John is a Certified Club Manager (CCM) and an elite club professional with over 35 years of experience managing athletic clubs, country clubs, and city clubs. Notably, Scharer served as General Manager of the Charlotte City Club for 24 years. Under his tenure he led the Club to be recognized as a Platinum Club of America since 2012 and achieved Platinum Club of the World status in 2020, a designation only bestowed on 250 clubs worldwide. Most recently, he was the Founder and President of The Private Club Group, providing interim management placement, executive search, and consulting services to the private club industry.
Throughout his career, he successfully built great teams, collaborated with committee and board members to meet goals, met and exceeded member expectations, and delivered financial results. John has successfully managed multiple renovation projects without an assessment to members.
Before joining the team at Strategic Club Solutions, he enjoyed consulting with clubs, conducting searches, and assisting clubs with interim management placement services, helping to create a “bridge” while a search for a permanent placement is conducted.
